Why We Homeschool

Hello!  I am a homeschooling mother on a mission not only to education my child, but to help others understand what homeschooling is all about and give them the tools they need to take the plunge (if they so desire)!

My son was born with a medical condition.  As soon as it became obvious that he would have ongoing complications, we decided to homeschool.  I imagine he might be able to handle a traditional school, but I know he will be much more comfortable at home where we can accommodate his medical needs whenever the situation arises.

Since we made that decision, I've dived in head first to the homeschooling world.  I've been overwhelmed, in a good way, by the amount of homeschooling communities, support groups and resources available.  I also realized that a lot of my preconceived notions of homeschool were incorrect.

I've gotten a lot of odd looks, awkward silences, and "Why in the world would you do that?" outbursts when I tell people that we're homeschooling.  I've also gotten wonderful support and encouragement.

My son is only in preschool, and when I say preschool, I mean the homeschool preschool program I've been putting together.  He does a bunch of other things outside of our little "academy", as we call it.

I hope you enjoy looking around my blog!  Homeschooling seems to have changed a lot over time, and I'm excited to share everything I've been learning about what it's like to homeschool now-a-days!
